UnAmerican Mitch unilaterally blocked any appointment by President Obama to fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, and therefore, McConnell has permanently politicized the Supreme Court, and Chief Justice Roberts is complicit. Because any time there is a vacancy by death or resignation, congressional leaders can now manipulate the process in similar ways. If it is OK for a single senior senator to stall the Constitution for nearly a year, why not hold a vacancy open for two years, or whatever the political situation seems to require?
Richard Nixon damaged the presidency, Newt Gingrich turned the House of Representatives into a mixed martial arts arena, and Roger Taney forever stained the Supreme Court with the Dred Scott decision, but it took someone special, someone rare, like UnAmerican Mitch to screw up three branches of government – the presidency, the Senate and the Supreme Court.
American intelligence knew that Russia was attacking America using cyberwarfare tactics to undermine Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Yet when the leaders of our intelligence community briefed McConnell, his reply was purely partisan: “You’re trying to screw the Republican nominee.” McConnell not only refused to condemn the Russians, but he threatened to attack the US intelligence community, labeling its call to defend America as an act of partisan politics. In other words, McConnell has tainted the Trump presidency by refusing to accept the facts on Russia. Consequently, Trump’s legitimacy is seriously questionable because McConnell refused to defend the presidential electoral system when it came under foreign attack by Russia.
UnAmerican Mitch has also broken the Senate by refusing to meet with President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Merrick Garland, and by blocking hearings on his nomination. Through political partisan techniques, he seriously harmed the process on which the Senate runs. Never in American history has this type of UnAmerican partisan politics occurred, but UnAmerican Mitch found a way.
With simply stealing Garland’s seat for Trump, McConnell rammed through the nomination of one of the most unfavorable Supreme Court nominees, Brett Kavanaugh. The court now has two justices appointed by Trump who loss the popular vote my more than 3 million..
Legacies cannot be predicted when a politician is still in office. UnAmerican Mitch has given the American people bitter, hateful, racist and vengeful partisan behavior from the White House to the Senate to the Supreme Court.
What is equally distressing to many Americans is that congressional Republicans refuse to take action or even question Trump’s racist behavior or un-American Mitch’s partisan antics.
In my opinion, the only way that the integrity of the US Constitution can be preserved and defended is to ensure a massive “blue wave” in 2020.
